Cooking Through Fiction: The Wyrm King — Star Wars Pizza

Some items just go together. They’re soul mates. For example, peanut butter and jelly; chocolate and peanut butter; rainbows and unicorns; and cookie dough and slumber parties are all matches made in heaven.

Today I’d like to add: Star Wars and pizza. Both are certifiably awesome. Who doesn’t love pizza? Who doesn’t love Star Wars? I’m sure those people exist who do not love either, but not in my house! In The Wyrm King, Nick, Laurie, and Jules no longer have a house because the giants decimated it. They’re on a mission to stop the Wyrm King from rising and destroying the entire state (and then the world, I’m sure!). What’s the easiest thing to grab and eat while you’re trying to stop an enormous, tangled Wyrm King from causing complete desolation? Pizza.

I’m sure if given the choice, the kids would have taken the time and made a Star Wars pizza. But when you’re saving the world, you don’t always have time for a creative, awesome meal.

“Simon unscrewed the top of the jar, and Jared dropped a chunk of pizza inside. One of the little mouths big down on the cheese, and then its torso twisted back so that another head could attack the slice.” (Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, The Wyrm King (Beyond the Spiderwick Chronicles #3) [New York: Simon and Schuster, 2009], 165)
